He was musically educated at the Colchester Institute School of Music by Christopher Phelps (conducting), Charles Hine and Angela Fussell (performance) and Alan Bullard (composition). While at ‘The Institute’ Shea won several awards including the John Myatt Cup for Solo Woodwind.
Like most freelance musicians, Shea makes a living from a very wide spectrum of musical activities and has worked as a performer, teacher, conductor, music journalist, concert manager and editor for several publishing companies. He is an Honorary Local Representative of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music with whom he previously held a post for a number of years.
