The East London Clarinet Choir gave their debut performance at St John's Church, Stratford Broadway in October 2006 as part of the substantial drive to regenerate east London in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games. The group was one of the first instrumental ensembles to perform as part of the Newham Music and Dance Festival. Within six years the group had performed all British repertoire for clarinet choir and many specially commissioned arrangements and new works.

The reality of running an ambitious agenda of programming and events was difficult beyond 2012. The support offered by Newham Council and the Olympic Delivery Authority was not continued.

The musicians who made up the East London Clarinet Choir were busy professional musicians and continue to support the genre. From 2008–2020 the group supported community projects including Clarinet Choir and Woodwind Orchestra Play Days, spearheaded by Music Director of the choir, Shea Lolin.

From 2021, the Woodwind Orchestra Play Day will become a project completely independent of the East London Clarinet Choir. Find out further details about the Woodwind Orchestra Play Day.
